Job Title: Accountant

Location: Cape Sable Island
Job Type: Full-time
Reports to: Catherine / Tyler

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within the finance team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all transactions are recorded correctly.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Handle accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R), ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.
  • Prepare intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and assist in tax filings.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports for management review.
  • Assist in audits and financial reviews as required.
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial documentation.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least three years of Canadian accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working towards CPA designation is a plus.
  • Experience with payroll processing and tax filings.
