	About Us Welcome to ATLANTIC CHICAN SEAFOOD Atlantic Chican Seafood is a live lobster wholesale facility located in Newellton, Nova Scotia, Canada that specializes in live Canadian lobsters (Homarus americanus). Newellton is located on Cape Sable Island, which can be found at the southern most tip of the province, in the Lobster Capital of Canada. Our personnel are experienced in the careful handling of live lobster and with our specialized equipment and carefully controlled conditions, we ensure the superior quality of our lobsters for every shipment. With our close relationships with our freight forwarders and close access to the wharves, where the live lobsters are brought from the cold, clear waters of the Atlantic, we are able to provide the freshest lobsters year round to all over the world, including mainland China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Europe, the United States, and Canada. Our live lobster is part of a sustainable fishing industry, and as a Canadian Food Inspection Agency approved plant, our experienced staff can ensure both the quality and safe handling of our products. We are able to ship in a variety of containers for export by air, using a number of types of cardboard boxes of various sizes to meet your needs and our close relationship with freight forwarders guarantee the freshest product delivered to your location on time.

Our history

In 1933, Irving Newell and his son, Crowell, began the business on a small scale at Orion Wharf in Newellton, Nova Scotia. In later years, Irving turned his fish business over to his sons, Harvey and Grant. The company became known as the Newell Brothers and bought fish under that name.

In 1958, Grant Newell formed G.M. Newell Ltd., buying live lobsters. In 1975, Grant's two sons, Thomas and Paul, formed T & P Fisheries Ltd., also dealing with live lobster.

Two years later, in 1977, Thomas and Paul took over G.M. Newell Ltd.

In 2013, the business was sold and is now operating under the name, Atlantic Chican Seafood.

				We currently ship live lobster to Asia, Europe, North America, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, and Canada. We buy fresh, live atlantic lobster mainly from districts 33 and 34, as well as other districts when their seasons are open. Our facility receives live lobster that goes through a process of grading into sizes and checking the quality of each lobster before it is then stored in our temperature controlled tanks. Prior to shipments, the requested quantity and size of each lobster is taken from the tanks and packed immediately into 30 pound boxes that are Canadian Food Inspection Agency aproved. Atlantic Chican Seafood is a Canadian Food Inspection Agency registered and approved facility. Our facility has been through some major renovations, with the addition of a new live lobster tank holding facility. With 13 tanks in total, our float capacity is 1,000,000 pounds and our holding capacity is approximately 2,000,000 pounds. We are MSC Certified and this provides us with product traceability and sustainability. Our live lobster is part of a sustainable fishing industry. We also have an Air Cargo Security program which ensures your order is kept secure during its entire journey.
